چکیده

This paper aims to propose a new framework for estimating and forecasting diffusion of high technology products, along with the construction of a price index. Into that context, the “diffusion–price” model is presented, as an innovative concept providing a long term estimation of both price and diffusion elasticity. This corresponds to the bidirectional estimation of the mutual influence of the product’s price over its expected diffusion and vice versa. The discrete parts of the methodology are the use of a diffusion model for the initial estimation of diffusion, the construction of a price index function for estimating the pricing mechanism and, finally, the construction of the “diffusion–price” model for estimating and adjusting the diffusion level and price quantities. The case studies examined, whose solution was based on genetic algorithms, revealed remarkable results which can be used for business strategies development, as the pricing policy is able to make diffusion diverge substantially from the initial estimates. The case studies considered correspond to the ADSL technology diffusion in the wider European area. C. Michalakelis (B) · G. Dede · D. Varoutas · T. Estimating Oil Products Demand by State-space Model and Relevant Guidelines for Price Liberalization

The purpose of this paper is to estimate oil products demand by the state-space model, taking into account the implications for price liberalization using the Kalman filter technique in the framework of a time-varying pattern. For this purpose, we use the data of the Energy Balance Sheet and the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company during the period of 1994-2017. Our model res...

Total Electricity Demand Modeling: An Application of Spatial Panel Econometric Method

This paper aims to model total electricity demand (incremental) in order to estimate price and income elasticities using provincial data and the spatial panel data method. Electricity demand at the province level is influenced by climatic zones, which can be divided into temperate, cold and sub-tropical. This paper uses time series data for electricity demand in Iran’s 28 provinces, taking into...

Estimating and Forecasting Petroleum Demand in OECD Countries (Gasoline, Jet Fuel and Diesel)

Today, factors such as increasing energy efficiency, use of alternative fuels, and application of  new fuel standards and new environmental laws in OECD countries have led to wide-range of changes in the structure of demand for fossil fuels. Given the importance of light derivatives, namely gasoline, jet fuel and diesel in the demand basked of OECD countries we focus on these products. We use ...

Estimation and Analysis of Energy Price Elasticities of Iranian provinces: The Augmented Mean Group Estimator Approach

In the literature on energy economics, estimating and analyzing price elasticities of energy demand is one of the important issues in examining the effectiveness of pricing modalities for energy conservatin and environmental policy follow-up. In this regard, low price elasticities of energy demand will increase the need for non-price policies to change consumer behavior and stimulate energy sav...
